Small Gods

The Great Om finds himself a turtle. We're not talking about getting a pet, he is a turtle!
And the only one who can hear him is a young, rather slow student monk named Brutha,
who nobody listens too.
If he doesn't find out how this happened, he may end up as one of the whispering voices
in the desert (or lunch for a very determined eagle).
What's a God to do?

Strips the skin off the history of organised religions, then salts it liberally. This is the one I tend to suggest as the first read for Discworld virgins.
In Discworld terms, it's also the history of the Ominian Church, something that is mentioned in other books, thus can give a better understanding of what the Church is about (starts with fire, ends in leaflets).
