Nanna's
Bible Study
For some time I've been reading Bible passages in my early morning 'quiet time'. On some mornings I find it exciting when the passage seems to come alive for me and I want to share it with someone.

So, I've decided to put my notes on my web site, hoping they might be helpful to you.

Please remember I am not an experienced Bible 'scholar'.  Although over recent years I have decided to return to study and am studying for a Master of Divinity degree, much of this site has been written before I returned to study and I certainly do not consider myself an 'expert' in theology or study of the Bible.   If anything I write in my study notes seems to you to be mistaken, please check it out by reading the passage for yourself and asking the advice of your pastor, priest, minister or spiritual adviser.

Please remember, too, that the Bible is the living word of God.  The message it reveals to me during my study time may not be the message God has for you. It is best to read and think about the passages for yourself with the aid of some study notes.

The books I use regularly in my study time include

  • New English Bible - my favourite
  • New Living Translation - a today's language favourite
  • New Revised Standard Version - recommended for study as an accurate translation.
  • Quest Study Bible - New International Version
  • Good News New Testament - Today's English Version
  • The Message- Eugene Peterson's paraphrase of the New  Testament, Psalms and Proverbs in contemporary English.
  • New Bible Commentary, 21st Century Edition.
  • Baker Theological Dictionary of the Bible - Ed. Walter A. Elwell
  • Introducing the Old Testament - John Drane
  • Introducing the New Testament - John Drane
Some web sites with helpful notes, and other resources:

I also find study notes helpful.  Some I have used are:

  • Encounter With God - Scripture Union notes.
  • Every Day With Jesus - Selwyn Hughes
The passages.........

I would be delighted to hear from you if you have any comments.
